October is here! It’s officially spooky season, the best time of the year.
And with spooky season comes a lot of new books. Seriously, this month is packed.
To make sense of all of this, I’ve made a list of my top ten releases of the month!
Note: These are in order of release date

Addie LaRue made a bargain: live forever, but be forgotten by everyone she meets. But 300 years after the bargain was made, she meets a man in a bookstore who knows her name. I’ve been dying to read more from V. E. Schwab, and this one sounds amazing!

Check out my interview with Kara McDowell!
I’ve already read this one and let me tell you, its so good. This book follows Paige, who struggles with anxiety, especially when it comes to making decisions. Stuck between two different choices for her Christmas vacation, Paige hits her head, and we get to see both options play out.
In A Holidaze by Christina Lauren

Christina Lauren own my soul. Their books are so addictive and fun, and I’m so excited that they are coming out with a holiday read! This book is Groundhog Day meets Hallmark and I can’t wait to read it!
Spoiler Alert by Olivia Dade

Genre: Contemporary Romance (Adult)

Spoiler Alert is a new romance following a famous actor, Marcus, who secretly writes fanfics for his own show, and a cosplayer, April, whose plus-size take of a character has gotten quite some attention online. When Marcus takes April out on a date as a publicity stunt, he knows he wants more than one date from her, but when he finds out she’s actually his long-time online friend in the fandom, he has another secret to keep from her.
The Lives of Saints (Grishaverse) by Leigh Bardugo

Genre: Fantasy
Page Count: 128

You knew this had to be on the list. I am officially grishaverse trash. This book is just so pretty, I have to read it! If you don’t know, The Lives of Saints explains the world of the grishaverse (The Grisha Trilogy, Six of Crows, and King of Scars), and goes into detail on the saints.
October 13
Lightbringer (Empirium #3) by Claire Legrand

Genre: Fantasy
Page Count: 592
Publisher: Sourcebooks Fire
Purchase Here!
The final book in the Empirium trilogy is here! I’ve been so excited to read this series, and now with all books out, I can’t wait o dive in a marathon it. This is a YA fantasy series told in two separate timelines following two different women.
Beyond the Ruby Veil (Beyond the Ruby Veil #1) by Mara Fitzgerald

Genre: Fantasy
Page Count: 288
Publisher: Little, Brown Books for Young Readers
Purchase Here!
This book has been described as a dark fantasy, with a slow burn f/f enemies to lovers romance, and I cannot wait to read it. It follows an ambitious girl who must travel past the red veil that surrounds her city to save her people.
October 20
Among the Beasts and Briars by Ashley Poston

Genre: Fantasy
Page Count: 352
Publisher: Balzer + Bray
Purchase Here!
I adore Ashley Poston’s books so much. Her newest book is a fantasy standalone about a girl with magic in her veins, forced to flee and find the Lady of the Wilds, in hopes that she will save her home.
The Brightest Night (Origin #3) by Jennifer L. Armentrout

Genre: Sci-Fi
Page Count: 512
Publisher: Tor Teen
Purchase Here!
I think this is Jennifer L. Armentrout’s fourth book she published this year (fifth if you count the novella) and I have no idea how she does it. I am so excited for this one- it is book three in the Origin series, which is a spin-off of the Lux series. Please, if you haven’t read either of these series yet, pick them up! They have aliens, romance, and classic JLA banter.
October 27
Kingdom of the Wicked (Kingdom of the Wicked #1) by Kerri Maniscalco

Genre: Historical Fantasy
Page Count: 448
Publisher: Jimmy Patterson
Purchase Here!
After the Stalking Jack the Ripper series, I’ve become a huge fan of Kerri Maniscalco. This new series follows a witch desperate to solve the murder of her twin sister, even if it means working with a prince of Hell.

I created a list on bookshop.org including all of these books.
I receive a 10% commission on all purchases from this list

Like I said, there are a lot of great books coming out this month, so I wanted to include a few others that I couldn’t fit into the list!
Also, I keep a spreadsheet of all the book releases I’m excited for, so click here to see that! The sheet includes 2020 releases, as well as some 2021 releases, and you can even go as far back as 2016 (I was less on top of book releases then, so don’t be surprised if there aren’t that many).
Honorable Mentions:
- Hush (Hush #1) by Dylan Farrow
- Kingdom of Sea and Stone (Crown of Coral and Pearl #2) by Mara Rutherford
- The Forest of Ghosts and Bones by Lisa Lueddecke (10/1)
- A Golden Fury by Samantha Cohoe (10/13) – Read an Excerpt Here!
- Snapped (Playbook #4) by Alexa Martin
- Blazewrath Games by Amparo Ortiz (10/6)

What books are you excited for this month?
