The month may almost be over but I can’t not talk about my favorite reads in April, or not set a goal for myself for May. Admittedly, I don’t have much time to complete that goal, but lets be honest, I never actually read everything on my TBR.
Read more to see the best things I read last month, and the books I’m hoping to adore this month!
April Favorites
There were 5 books in April that shaped the month for me. Three of them were continuations in series I love, one was a nice standalone, and one was the start to a series I’m so excited to keep reading.
Defy Me (Shatter Me #5) by Tahereh Mafi
Rating: 4.5 Stars
I was so excited for this book, and I really did like it. However, I wouldn’t go into expecting action and adventure. This heavily character driven, which usually I adore, but I do kinda wish there was a little more actual plot happening. That said- super excited for book six!!
Defy The Fates (Constellation #3) by Claudia Gray
Rating: 4 Stars
This book is almost the opposite of Defy Me. I was super exciting going in, but there was SO MUCH PLOT. Because of that, I didn’t get to connect as much to the characters I love! Still a great conclusion to a series a love, though. If you haven’t picked up Defy the Stars— do it!
The Princess and The Fangirl (Once Upon a Con #2) by Ashley Poston
Rating: 4 Stars (Review coming this week!)
I think the only reason none of the books so far have gotten 5/5 stars all comes down to the same issue: they have too much to live up to. Geekerella is one of my all-time favorites, and while I adored this, I couldn’t give it a 5/5 because my expectations were astronomical and obviously it couldn’t reach them perfectly. Although, it definitely is an amazing read!
Serious Moonlight ARC by Jenn Bennett
Rating: 5 Stars
My first 5 star book of the month! Jenn Bennet never fails to write fun, heartfelt, adorable YA romances that I can’t put down. She has become one of my go-to contemporary romance authors!
The Tiger at Midnight ARC (The Tiger at Midnight #1) by Swati Teerdhala
Rating: 4.5 Stars
I really loved this book. Seriously- amazing characters, worldbuilding, and a fun plot! My reading slump is really ruining a lot of fantasy books for me, but this one reminded me why I love the genre so much.
May TBR
I’ve chosen five books to try to read in May. I know that that’s a lot, especially considering the month is ending and I’ve only read one of them so far, but who knows! Maybe I can do it! (I probably can’t, but let me have hope).
Since I’m setting this goal so late, I’m really trying to stick with books that I know I can read quickly. I’ve already started the two fantasy books on this list, and the rest are all contemporary romance, which I can usually read in a day. Hopefully, this might actually be achievable!
- The Bride Test by Helen Hoang
- We Hunt the Flame (Sands of Arawiya #1) by Hafsah Faizal
- The Unhoneymooners by Christina Lauren
- The Storm Crow (The Storm Crow #1) ARC by Kalyn Josephson
- Red, White & Royal Blue by Casey McQuiston
What were your favorite April reads (if you can even think back to April)? How are you doing on your May reading goals?

[…] a lot of my June TBR is just stealing stuff from my half-failed May TBR. But! I’ve already finished one thing from my TBR (Red, White, and Royal Blue is absolute […]
