My Top 10 Favorite Reads of 2020

I read 145 books in 2020, and today I want to talk about my 10 favorite reads of the year.

This was extremely hard to narrow down, because so many amazing books came out last year, but I managed to do it! However, this list is in no particular order (except maybe #1 and #2, because they were truly amazing).

There were also a lot of books I wanted to read this year, that I just didn’t get the chance to. So, if you’re wondering why a popular book isn’t included, it’s probably because I didn’t get to pick it up yet. But don’t worry! I’ll be discussing my 2020 TBR soon, and you might see a few of those books there.

Also, if you’re interesting in hearing all of my thoughts on one of the books, just click the rating! It will take you to my full review of the book, if I have one.

Without further ado, let’s get started!

10. The Shadows Between Us by Tricia Levenseller

Page Count: 326
Genre: YA Fantasy
Publication Date: 2/25/20
Rating: 5 Stars

Tricia Levenseller is one of my favorite authors, and The Shadows Between Us reminded me why. This is an addictive, fast-paced fantasy standalone following a girl determined to marry the king so she can kill him and take the crown for herself. I loved the characters and the romance, and I’m so excited to see what Tricia Levenseller writes next!

9. The Damned by Renee Ahdieh

Series: The Beautiful #2
Page Count: 456
Genre: YA Historical Fantasy
Publication Date: 7/7/20
Rating: 4.5 Stars

I adored The Beautiful, and I was so excited to read The Damned. This book was absolutely amazing, it went in directions I never expected, and I am so excited to see where the rest of the series goes. If you’re looking for vampires, mystery, an atmospheric setting, and a swoon-worthy romance, pick up this series.

8. The Silvered Serpents by Roshani Chokshi

Series: The Gilded Wolves #2
Page Count: 416
Genre: YA Historical Fantasy
Publication Date: 9/22/20
Rating: 5 Stars

The Gilded Wolves was absolutely breathtaking, so The Silvered Serpents had a lot to live up to. But it soared above my every expectation. The writing was gorgeous, the characters were amazing (even when I wanted to hit some of them), and the setting was brilliant. I am in love with this series.

7. Ruthless Gods by Emily A. Duncan

Series: Something Dark and Holy #2
Page Count: 544
Genre: YA Fantasy
Publication Date: 4/7/20
Rating: 5 Stars

This series keeps destroying me and I keep coming back. Wicked Saints hurt, and left me dying to know what would happen next. Ruthless Gods continued that tradition. I am obsessed with this series, I love these characters and this world, and I am both excited and terrified to read book 3, Blessed Monsters.

6. Get A Life, Chloe Brown by Talia Hibbert

Series: The Brown Sisters #1
Page Count: 373
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Publication Date: 11/5/19
Rating: 5 Stars

This book made me so happy. I just loved it, from start to finish. I’m not determined to read more Talia Hibbert because I enjoyed this book (and the rest of the series) so much. I can’t recommend it enough if you’re looking for a great romance.

5. Crush by Tracy Wolff

Series: Crave #2
Page Count: 704
Genre: YA Contemporary Fantasy
Publication Date: 9/1/20
Rating: 5 Stars

Reading this book was one of the most fun parts of this year. I was addicted, I never wanted to put it down. Crave was a good book, but Crush is next level. I love the direction this series is going in, and I’m completely obsessed with one of the characters introduced in this book. Covet can’t come out soon enough!!

4. A Song of Wraiths and Ruin by Roseanne A. Brown

Series: A Song of Wraiths and Ruin #1
Page Count: 480
Genre: YA Fantasy
Publication Date: 6/2/20
Rating: 4 Stars

This was one of my most anticipated releases of 2020, and I was right to be excited for it. A Song of Wraiths and Ruin was exactly what I wanted it to be. The world building and characters were amazing, the plot was fascinating, and I just fell in love with it.

3. A Kingdom of Flesh and Fire by Jennifer L. Armentrout

Series: Blood and Ash #2
Page Count: 637
Genre: NA Fantasy Romance
Publication Date: 9/1/20
Rating: 5 Stars

I love all of Jennifer L. Armentrout’s books, so it’s no surprise I would love this series. However, it is surprising how much I love it. I honestly wasn’t sure which book in the series to put on this list because I adored them both so much. These books have fun characters, a unique take on vampires, and a steamy romance.

2. These Violent Delights by Chloe Gong

Series: These Violent Delights #1
Page Count: 464
Genre: YA Historical Fantasy
Publication Date: 11/17/20
Rating: 5 Stars

I’m sure you’ve already heard this but I need to say it again: Romeo & Juliet in 1920’s Shanghai. Enemy gangs. Childhood Sweethearts-to-Enemies-to-Lovers. This book has everything. I cannot praise this book enough. It’s absolutely stunning, and a must read for any enemies-to-lovers fan, or really any YA fantasy or historical fan! Or really just anyone. Everyone should read it.

1. The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue by V. E. Schwab

Page Count: 442
Genre: Historical Fantasy
Publication Date: 10/6/20
Rating: 5 Stars

This book. I cannot tell you how much I love it. I cried so much while reading. It completely broke me, but also in the best possible way? I can’t even talk about it coherently because it’s so amazing. Just, please read it. Please. I’m begging you.
