August Favorites + My September TBR!

Caitsbooks.com August Favorites and September TBR 2019

I had a busy month is August, but despite that, I managed to read 10 books! I focused a lot on the Disney-A-Thon in August, (I even did some of my reading is Disney World!), so while I’ll talk about some of my favorites now, I’ll be posting a full Disney-A-Thon wrap up soon!

I started August off strong, but I definitely fell behind on my goals. That said, I’m still happy to have read 10 books. Hopefully I’ll keep the momentum going in September!

August Favorites

I read quite a few good books in August, but these were the four that stood out to me the most:

A Curse So Dark and Lonely (Cursebreaker #1) by Brigid Kemmerer

Rating: 5 Stars

I knew I would love this book and I don’t know why I kept putting it off. It was absolutely amazing! I’ve been kinda done with Beauty and the Beast retellings (I know- blasphemy!) because I’ve read so many, but this one has such a unique take on the story!

A Heart So Fierce and Broken (Cursebreaker #2) by Brigid Kemmerer (ARC)

Rating: 4.5 Stars
Release Date: 1/7/2020

I had no idea this book would be following two different characters for 99.9% of the story, so that was a bit of a surprise, but I really did come to love them and the journey they went on. And now I’m really, really stressed about how this is going to end.

I’ll have full reviews of both A Heart so Fierce and Broken and A Curse So Dark and Lonely up later this year!

Serpent and Dove (Serpent and Dove #1) by Shelby Mahurin (ARC)

Rating: 5 Stars
Release Date: 9/3/2019

(Review to be posted on 9/3/2019, if not yet available, check it out on goodreads here! )

Oh my god this book. I absolutely adored every single page. You know when a book feels like it was written just for you and your niche tastes? That’s what this book was to me. It was so much more than I thought it would be, and blew me away. I need to get my hands on the sequel ASAP!! (Too bad I’ll probably be suffering for a year… or more)

Sorcery of Thorns by Margaret Rogerson

Rating: 5 Stars

Somehow Margaret Rogerson wrote a fantastic debut novel, set my expectations for her next book crazy high, and still exceeded them. It’s sorcery. I was never a fan of sorcerers/grimoires/etc in books before, but she has officially won me over with this book.

September TBR

So, there are a couple of books in my September TBR that may look familiar- mostly because they were from my August TBR. Like I said, I didn’t exactly hit all of my August goals, but I’m confident I’ll do better this month! Or maybe not, but at least I’ll try. (Look at this positivity! My therapist would be proud).

On addition to those two August leftovers, I have 3 highly anticipated September releases on this list. Two of which are finales to series I love, and one is the start of a new adult scifi/fantasy series. I was lucky enough to be sent an ARC to read it early!

What books are you planning to read in September?
