top 7 july 2019 releases caitsbooks.com

I can’t believe it’s already July. It’s not allowed to be July. I was supposed to get so much stuff done, and I did none of it. And now the year is halfway over…

Okay time to bottle up that little mini-crisis. There is one good thing about it being July, and that’s all of the amazing releases!! Read more to see my top 7 books being published this month!

(Note: These are in order of release date)

7. The Storm Crow by Kalyn Josephson

Release Date: July 9th, 2019
Series: The Storm Crow #1 (Duology)
Genre: YA Fantasy

The Storm Crow is a debut novel, and what really stands out about it is the depiction of mental illness– also the super awesome magical Crows. This book follows Princess Thia, who has been in a deep depression since her Kingdom was attacked, and all of their elemental Crows were killed. When she finds a Crow egg, she and her sister create a plan to take back what they lost.

6. Spin the Dawn by Elizabeth Lim

Release Date: July 9th, 2019
Series: The Blood of Stars #1 (Duology)
Genre: YA Fantasy

This book was exactly what I hoped it would be. Spin the Dawn is basically what would happen if you mixed Mulan and Project Runway, then decided to throw in a little Aladdin. When a messenger summons Maia’s father to court, she disguises herself as a boy and takes his place in a competition to become the Imperial Tailor. But her dream is harder to achieve than she expects, after she is given the task of sewing three magical gowns for the emperor’s betrothed.

5. Wider Girls by Rory Power

Release Date: July 9th, 2019
Series: N/A
Genre: YA Horror / Mystery

Wilder Girls follows Hetty, whose private school has been placed under quarantine after the Tox began infecting the teachers and students. This book has been described as feminist horror, and I honestly didn’t know how badly I needed that in my life until now.

4. The Wedding Party by Jasmine Guillory

Release Date: July 16th, 2019
Series: The Wedding Date #3 (companion novels)
Genre: Romance *Not YA

I’ve been dying to read this series, and I’m taking this release as a sign to finally start it. The Wedding Party is the third book in The Wedding Date series, but they are all standalone novels, so you don’t need to read them in order. This book follows Maddie and Theo, and has a enemies-to-lovers romance!

3. Soul of Stars by Ashley Poston

Release Date: July 23rd, 2019
Series: Heart of Iron #2 (Duology)
Genre: YA Sci-Fi/Retelling (Anastasia)

You have no idea how desperate I am for this book. Seriously. I’ve been dying since I read Heart of Iron and I need to figure out how this all ends!!! If anything happens to one specific character, I might riot. If you haven’t read Heart of Iron— please do. It’s an Anastasia retelling set in a Sci-Fi universe with so many great characters!

2. Truly Madly Royally by Debbie Riguad

Release Date: July 30th, 2019
Series: N/A
Genre: YA Contemporary Romance

This book has been pitched as a new The Princess Diaries, and I am so here for that. Royal romances are probably some of my favorites to read (I think growing up on Disney movies is to blame for that). Truly Madly Royally follows Zora Emerson as she attends a prestigious summer program, where she meets Owen, and actual prince. When he invites her as his date to his brother’s wedding, she’s thrown into the spotlight, and must learn to navigate this new world.

1. The Merciful Crow by Margaret Owen

Release Date: July 30th, 2019
Series: The Merciful Crow #1 (Duology)
Genre: YA Fantasy

Can I just say– I’m loving this Fantasy Duology trend. The Merciful Crow follows three main characters – Fie, a Crow (the lowest caste) who is hired to collect a dead royal, Jasimir, the Crown Prince who faked his death to avoid assassination, and his body guard, Tavin, who is beginning to want a life of his own.

So here is my list!! Usually summer is pretty dead when it comes to book releases, but this year I feel like we have some great contenders. I know I already have most of these preordered and I can’t wait to dive into them.
